Starting off this project was exciting as I was eager to see what everybody would bring to the table regarding what happens in their everyday life. First of all when I was told that we would be taking pictures everyday but could only upload one I thought it would be easy to pick one from the day it would be clear which was my favourite but the thing is I take so many throughout the day of things that a lot of people wouldn't think to or even find remotely interesting but I love the concept of looking at things in a different light that i did find it increasingly difficult to pick just one to upload.
The first week was approached by sticking to my camera phone which is an iPhone but I am wanting to continue using phone photos throughout this project as it fits in perfectly with the iPhone theme. I held off editing them as I wanted to show the colours, tones and exposures as I took the photos to try and explain the concept that this is how I saw the subject matter etc in the photo so this is how I am showing it to the viewer.
Looking at the subject matter of my photos I feel I communicated to the viewer my conceptual way of thinking and looking at the first week of this project and I know that each week it will develop my skills for communicating with the viewers. Starting off with annotating my photos I feel as though I presented my way of thinking when I took these photos well in the seminar and I stuck to my daily habit which helped me explain better how I was feeling at the time of taking the photos, why k took the photo and how it helped me realise the habitual of the normal everyday life for a student.
Day 1- Now explaining my first photo of the set, this was originally a panoramic shot which I presented in the seminar which I had jiggled the camera as I was taking the panoramic photo to show a distorted effect. The subject of the photo was an alarm clock with fairy lights around it with black negative space towards the right hand side of the image. The point of capturing this image in a distorted way is to tell the story to the viewer of being able to get up in winter when it's still dark and having that few minutes when a normal light is too bright to turn on but still having blurry vision as your body comes to terms with being woken up. I felt this portrayed the exact effect I wanted as people really did have to have a good look at the photo for it to narrate what's going on.
Day 2- My second photo was taken in a cafe me and my friends walked past called Ham and Jam. It looked very contemporary and minimal and I had never seen a cafe so artistic and bright so we decided to go in for a drink. We all saw this girl reading and I tried to take a photo of her but she realised and got up and sat at the other side of the table and kept her back to us so after that we respected her privacy but I took this photo because it shows how people like to keep themselves to themselves and people don't like to interact a lot nowadays they like to get on with their day in peace.
Day 3- On day three I decided to stick to a simple photograph of how I wake up early to the sounds of building work everyday right outside my window. A lot of people say it can't be that bad but this photo was to prove how close it is to my bedroom window and it goes to show how people should appreciate what view they have as I had a nice view of Preston when I first moved here now I can only see building works that block the sunlight.
Day 4- This image is my favourite for this weeks photos I took because of the bright white negative space around the photo and how symmetrical the the sinks are together in the middle of the image. The white brick wall surrounding the photograph to me is visually pleasing which all in all shows what I find interesting and how I like things to look- minimal. The reason I took a photo of this particular object is because I walk past it a few times a week in university and have never noticed it before and it made me look at thing ps in a different light and to appreciate things that we don't notice.
Day 5- I thought it would be good to add a tedious task in my collection of week ones photos to show what we all have to do from time to time and that everybody has to pull their weight whether their students or living with full time jobs as students have a lot provided for them for example the instructions on how to wash clothes etc on the walls. It just shows how much is provided for us as students and how much help and support we do get and not to take it for granted.
Day 6- On day 6 I took a photo of my friends trainer in the reflection of the window. The reason I did this is because reflections is something we use and rely on everyday even if we don't realise but they are something that's you cannot escape, windows are everywhere and mirrors are everywhere. The reason I used this particular photo was to show reflection and colour. It also portrays Preston town centre which is something I do walk past most days and how many shops are at our door step and a convenience to us.
Day 7- I thought I would post an inconvenience that happens in our everyday life for my last photo but with a visual aesthetic to it which is quite pleasing to the eye. I took a photo of my mirror in my bathroom fogged up when I tried to wipe it after I'd been in the shower. This is because it's something people have to deal with most days and have to wait for it to clear up before they can use the mirror again otherwise it marks.
In conclusion, I feel like I have come to a good start with the first weeks photographs and I also feel like I've stylised my photos well and they have a good conceptual outcome which narrate the story to the photos well.
